Newman International Academy excels to produce champions both on the field and off the field, teaching students teamwork, the value of hard work and effort, discipline, and dedication. We offer sports year round including football, volleyball, cheerleading, cross country, basketball, soccer, track and field, softball, and baseball.

The expectations we place on our student athletes are as follows:
~ Student athletes will be champions, doing their best in their field of sport and in their studies.
~ Student athletes will be Citius, Altius, Fortius - “FASTER, HIGHER, STRONGER” in line with the Olympic motto and train to that end.
~ Student Athletes will be individuals of character and good conduct; salt and light - salt by changing the world through good deeds and behavior, and light by being people of sound mind, love, power and self control at all times and places.

Newman International Academy focuses on producing champions with the knowledge that not every athlete can be “the champion” in the eyes of the world, but that there is a CHAMPION in every child and in every student athlete. Our expectation will be that every student athlete will be a CHAMPION with the help, support, encouragement, opportunity and training that Newman International Academy and its families provide.

Coach Myles Norwood, New GIBBINS Athletic Director and Varsity Football Head Coach – Faith, Family, & Football

College Career – Purdue University

After receiving multiple full-ride scholarship offers, he chose Purdue University, where he was a four-year letterman, starting on special teams and at cornerback in the Big Ten. Competing against elite talent, he had the opportunity to play alongside and against future NFL athletes. He also learned under top coaches, including Marcus Freeman (Notre Dame) and Taver Johnson (Tennessee). In August 2017, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. His experiences at Purdue continue to shape his coaching approach today.

Football Background

Coach Norwood’s athletic journey includes a standout career at Grace Prep Academy, where he was a three-sport athlete (Football, Track & Field, and Baseball), earning All-District honors in all three. In football, he was a two-year captain, three-time All-District selection, three-time All-State selection (two-time 1st Team), 2013 TAPPS 4A Athlete of the Year, and a school record-holder for receiving touchdowns in a season. In track and field, he was the 2013 TAPPS 4A Triple Jump State Champion and ranks second in school history in Triple Jump and Long Jump, as well as fourth in the 200m.

Faith

Faith is the foundation of Coach Myles Norwood’s life. As a coach and leader, his core values are rooted in his relationship with Christ. Raised in a church founded by his grandfather in Fort Worth, he was blessed with guidance that shaped him into the man he is today. As he embarks on this new journey at Newman Gibbins, his love for Christ and passion for coaching remain unwavering—because he knows who is ultimately in control.

Family

For Coach Norwood, family is one of the most important aspects of life. The people we surround ourselves with shape who we become, and loyalty and trust are the cornerstones of any strong family. As the new Athletic Director and leader of the football program, his goal is to cultivate a school and community that feels like family—a place where student-athletes feel at home and always have a place to return. True family is built together, and that is exactly what he aims to foster at Newman Gibbins.

Coaching Career

Coach Norwood began his coaching career at Grace Prep Academy (2017-2018) as a Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs Coach, also assisting with track and field. He later coached defensive backs at Argyle Liberty Christian (2019) before returning to Grace Prep (2020-2023) as Special Teams Coordinator, Defensive Pass Game Coordinator, and Defensive Backs Coach, contributing to an undefeated district championship in 2021.

In 2023, he advanced to the collegiate level at Monmouth College (NCAA DIII), coaching defensive backs and assisting with the pass game, helping develop one of the nation’s top defenses. In 2024, he returned to Grace Prep as Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach.
